SOLUTION to I, 1

(1)   “…in other words..” is a two-step puzzle, with a preliminary and a final solution, as signaled by the two sets of blanks below the puzzle text.

(2)  We might want to look for ‘other words’ for the original text words and phrases.
We will be guided by the number of letters in the first set of blank spaces (for example, we need a five-letter word for 'sea snail'. etc.)

(3)  Some are not too hard:

Denver height – mile (as in, the mile-high city)

Quincy, M.E., for example – coroner

           biblical you – thee

           yang’s counterpart – yin

So…

          _ _ _ _ _ | _ _ _ _   _ _ | mile | _ _ _ | _ _ _ | coroner |

          _ _ _ _ _ | thee | yin | _ _ _ _ | _ _.

(4)  coroner | _ _ _ _ _ | thee  suggests “corner of the.” So, ‘unrefined’ could be ‘rough.’

(5)  If you don’t know what to call sea snails and big deer you can always google them…

      That gets you...

           Whelk | _ _ _ _   _ _ | mile | _ _ _ | elk | coroner |

             rough | thee | yin | _ _ _ _ | _ _.

(6)  Whelk | _ _ _ _   suggests the title of the puzzle, "Welcome." (Always look at the title of the puzzle. It's another clue, and sometimes a big one!) And that puts you one or two easy guesses from the solution:

        Whelk | come to | mile | hit | elk | coroner |

         rough | thee | yin | turn | et.

(7)    Welcome to my little corner of the internet!
